I am certainly no expert, but over the past 5 1/2 months I have done a lot of trial and error with tons of baby items. Before the arrival of our son, I did a ton of research of what to register for…but nothing can actually prepare you for the real deal. When you are “in the trenches”…that’s when you find out what works for you. Because what works for you, may not work for someone else and vice versa. But I still think it’s important to share what worked, and that is why I wanted to share with you all MY favorite things from the first 5 1/2 months.

In no particular order….

The Fisher Price Sooth and Glow Sea Horse is/was a lifesaver during nap times and bed time. This little and simple animal soothed my little man right to sleep SOOOO many times! You press his tummy and it glows and sings a soft melody. I laid it in his bassinet and now his crib and he loves it. This also can be easily transported so I would put it in his bassinet, pack and play, and take it with me when we traveled.  A definite must, and a great gift for any mommy to be.

The Summer Infant Slim and Secure Video Monitor is a great video monitor. By now there are some newer versions (Once you purchase electronics you are already behind), but this one is working great for us. I will admit that it becomes addicting, and sometimes I find myself staring at it too much, but it’s totally worth it.

The Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium is a must have. This wonderful thing attaches to your crib, and will definitely help put your baby to sleep (well it did for me). Yes I already mentioned the sea horse, but that one only plays for a short time. This wonderful contraption plays for 25 minutes! It really is great.

The Beaba Baby Food Maker is a wonderful little machine. I just started using to make my baby food, but this food maker steams and blends in 1 container. This makes set up and clean up extremely easy. Anyone could use it, which makes it a must have. It’s a little expensive, but definitely great to put on a registry, and definitely makes a great gift.

The Aden and Anais Swaddling blankets are my favorite multi use blankets. I didn’t swaddle much, but I use these blankets for everything else. They are light weight, and I keep one in my diaper bag at all times. Perfect for wrapping your little one at the doctors office. I put one over the infant carrier when it is raining, and I lay it on the floor. I am also told these are great light weight summer blankets!

The Ergo Baby Carrier is my favorite carrier. I have the Moby Wrap, as well as the Petunia Picklebottom Sight Seer, and although both are great and serve their purpose, The Ergo Baby is the most comfortable for me. If you are carrying for your little one for any period of time, this carrier is much easier on your back than others.

I really loved my Infant Gowns . My Baby Bargains Book (I really recommend this book), said they weren’t worth it but I totally disagree. My son slept in these for a long time! It was so easy at night to change him, and boy do you have to do that A LOT. Especially in the beginning. It was a great staple to have in newborn clothes.

When my son was born he HATED being naked, and that transferred over to bath time. I told my Mother in law about this and she found this Bath Luve Duck Wash Cloth . This wash cloth goes over your baby’s body while they are in the bath, keeping them warm. My son loved this! It really made a difference at bath time.

Obviously there are the big items that work great…pack and play, excersaucer, swing….but I figured those are known. These items are smaller items that made a BIG difference.

If you get any of these, or have any of them let me know what you think.

What are your favorite newborn items??? What got you through the newborn months?
