I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. I know I certainly did! This past weekend was the 4th weekend in a row that I found myself traveling, but it was totally worth it! I enjoyed great food, and great family time. I am certainly stuffed and satisfied!
Thanksgiving is one holiday that both me and The Captain were able to agree on. As some of you can relate to, holidays are one hurdle a newlywed couple must face. For this particular holiday, we’ve agreed to spend Thanksgiving day with my in laws, and on Friday we travel to PA to have round two with my family. In my opinion this holiday is about spending time with loved ones, so I convinced my family to move the holiday. It works out great because both my brother and sister get to be there too, and we all can be together!
Thursday we spent the day at my sister and brother in laws house. She did a wonderful job hosting her first Thanksgiving! (you did a great job too “BIL” but lets face it…SIL did most of the work) I would have no clue where to begin to cook for that many people! Everything tasted great, and it was a nice day spent with family.
Friday morning our little family jumped into the car and traveled to PA. It’s funny how each family has their own idea of what makes Thanksgiving dinner…for me I look forward to Turkey, canned corn, my dad’s famous mashed potatoes, apple sauce and biscuits…that is my favorite meals of all time! This year my mom tried some candied yams and think they were a keeper! Saturday night was spent with more family time and wine…they complement each other well.
Saturday brought another family tradition! The Christmas tree farm!! Yes that’s right! Every year we go and chop down our Christmas tree at the Christmas tree farm. The family piles into cars (dogs and all) and pick out the perfect tree. This year The Captain did the honor of sawing it down (not so sure he looked at it as an honor but oh well) I look forward to it every year…then my job is to help my mom decorate the house for Christmas! I love doing this every year!
The holidays are about tradition for me…yes I have to compromise a bit with the Captain, but this time is so special that I am thankful that he is generous and understands how much these traditions mean to me. I’m pretty much a kid at heart, and truly believe in the magic of the season. I am truly looking forward to the rest of the holiday season, and all the joy it brings! Let the season begin!!!
Families that live close must be nice. I thnk that would be a little easier on us!
Glad you had a great holiday! Our families are close in proximity to each other, so that helps our situation, plus, this year my MIL joined us for Thanksgiving. =)
It is great that you guys compromise so well about holidays- it is one thing I pray for about my future daughters-in-law (yes, I think that far ahead LOL)
I just love traveling… It breaks up the monotony that we sometimes find ourselves in.
My mother does Thanksgiving. My inlaws have to come or they won’t see us. My mother’s cooking is that good. ?
Thats great Kelly…sometimes you just have to do what’s best for you! I don’t’ budge on Christmas:)
Glad to hear you had a wonderful holiday…we all eat way too much on the holidays…oh well!
