Growing up we had these records with our favorite Christmas music on them (yes that’s right, records!) Right after Thanksgiving started the time where Christmas music would play constantly in our home. As children my sister and I would dress up in little costumes and dance around the house. Alot of those times my poor parents had to sit and watch our “dance recitals”. I have such wonderful memories of those times. Once new methods of playing music came about, I made it my job to find those specific songs, by those particular singers to still play in my home today. So for you my readers I will pass on my FAVORITE Christmas songs, sung in the manner that is most important to me. Let’s play “Who Sang It Best” Christmas Edition!
All Time Favorite Christmas Songs
- We Need A Little Christmas: Percy Faith
- Have a Holly Jolly Christmas: Burl Ives
- It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year: Andy Williams
- The Chipmunk Song: Alvin and the Chipmunks
- The Christmas Song: Nat King Cole
- The Christmas Waltz: Frank Sinatra
- White Christmas: Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby
- Carol of the Bells: Manheim Steamroller
- It’s beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas: Perry Como and the Fontain Sisters
- Rockin Around the Christmas Tree: Brenda Lee
Over the years people have tried to add “new” Christmas songs into the mix. Most of the time these songs don’t capture the true spirit, or catchiness of old favorites, but sometimes…an artist scores big and creates a new classic. Here are some of my favorites
New Christmas Classics
- All I Want For Christmas is You: Mariah Carey
- Happy Christmas: John Lennon
- The Night Before Christmas: Amy Grant
- Blue Christmas: Elvis
- Wonderful Christmas Time: Paul McCartney
- Santa Baby: Madonna
- Feliz Navidad: Jose Feliciano
- Christmas/ Sarajevo 12/24 (Instrumental): Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- Christmas Canon: Trans-Siberian Orchestra
- Please Come Home For Christmas: Eagles
I have made multiple CD mixes in order to create the PERFECT Christmas play-list (sad, but true), but sometimes there are some Christmas albums that are great on their own.
Great Christmas Albums
- James Taylor at Christmas: James Taylor
- The Nutcracker: Tchaikovsky
- White Christmas: Bing Crosby
So there you have it! Some of my Christmas Favorites for you to take and make your own holiday mixes! What are your favorites?
This is an awesome list! My sister and I used to do dance recitals for our parents too in matching Christmas PJs! Also White Christmas is our favorite Christmas Movie and since we have seen it so many times, we could do (and still can) all of the different songs throughout that movie, so we would put on those skits for our parents too…we still sing “Sisters” every year! We are dorks…I know ?
Before I even finished reading your comment I started singing “sisters” in my head! I LOVE White Christmas and can’t wait to watch it every year. Definitly a classic!!!
Okay, I LOVE this list!! I can’t wait to go to grooveshark and listen to them all. I had forgotten some of them.
Let me know what you think! These are certainly my favorites! ?
Christmas with the Lennon Sisters, Christmas Island and I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. My nana still has the record and the big ‘ole record player to play it on. I’d love to own it, but it does not exist in any modern format. (Though I’m very glad you included the actual Best Christmas Song EVER, White Christmas. Best. Movie. Ever. That and Holiday Inn.)
Oh and while we’re discussing Bing Crosby, how about Crosby/Bowie’s Little Drummer Boy?
God I love Christmas.
I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus is a good one too! Christmas music is just wonderful! ?
I LOVE this list!!
