With pregnancy comes a lot of stress, and since the pregnancy no no’s pretty much don’t allow me to indulge in my normal stress relievers (ie…herbal tea, wine, wine and more wine…) I am left to just deal with it. That’s why, when I was contacted to try the Strong Yoga4Pregnancy DVD, created by Brenda Strong (Mary Alice Young on “Desperate Housewives”), I was rather intrigued and excited. I have never done yoga for a consistent period of time, but I loved the relaxation of acupuncture, and I hear that yoga falls with in that type of category. So with that in mind I decided to give it a try!
My pre pregnancy relaxation technique was to sit on the couch, watching my favorite shows, with candles lit and some wine. (sounds wonderful doesn’t it?) But other than that I am not one to really “relax” per say. Granted I am a great sitter…I do a lot of sitting and watching television, but honestly I wouldn’t put that into the same category as say relaxing in the bathtub, or meditation. So at first I found the DVD a bit slow, but isn’t that what Yoga’s all about? I just had to learn to let it all go.
The Strong Yoga4Pregnancy DVD is great because it allows for modifications for each of the 3 trimesters. This is good because I am sure as my belly gets bigger I will not be squatting as low or bending as far as I can now in my second trimester. (not that I could squat low or touch my toes even before being pregnant) In addition to a personalized yoga practice- in which Brenda Strong guides you through warm-ups as well as standing, balance seated and relaxation poses -this DVD includes labor techniques (which I’m totally not ready for) you can do with a partner.
One thing I found interesting is that Brenda Strong began this line of products with her Yoga4Fertility video because of her own struggle with infertility, and now serves on the board of the American Fertility Association. From there came the Strong Yoga4Pregnancy addition.
I have been told that people who practice yoga have an easier pregnancy. I’m not sure if this is true just yet, since I just started using the DVD’s, but I have to think that anything that can help you during this time is a huge asset. Not to mention that the DVD is only $24.95 and can be bought online at www.yoga4fertilty.com, which is a ton less than paying for individual yoga classes at a yoga studio. Plus you get to do it in the comfort of your own home!

I was provided a copy of the Strong Yoga4Pregnancy DVD for the purposes of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Prenatal yoga is my first choice when I need to relax. I have also found prayer and meditation to be wonderful as well!
I usually try to just find a quiet spot. I’m so soothed by the sound of a fan, so I like to get in front of a fan and just close my eyes. That, or read. Doesn’t take much to get me relaxed these days!!

Well, I’m not pregnant, so I don’t want to throw my name in the hat. Let it go to a lady who is pregnant and needs the dvd. Then again, one of my bloggy friends told me she had a dream about me recently and that I told her I was pregnant, now wouldn’t that be funny… ok, but anyway.. really, you can’t drink herbal tea while pregnant? Never heard of that before!
What do I do to relax/destress – right now I’m working out and that helps, or read, or make jewelry or talk on the phone with my Mom ?
To relax, I like to take a bubble bath and read while listening to music. Ah, perfection!
