Foster A Lonely Pet For The Holidays

USBookFront

The holiday season always brings out the BEST Hallmark movies! This past Sunday I watched A movie called “A Dog Named Christmas”. The movie is based on a book written by Greg Kincaid of the same name. The story is about a mentally challenged young man who adopts a dog for the holiday season. Hallmark has partnered with Petfinder to create an actual program called “Foster a lonely pet for the holiday season”. This program was created so that the animal can have a loving home for the holidays, have a chance to get out of the shelter, and hopefully find a forever home.

As many of you know I am a true dog lover. I believe that they all deserve to have a loving home. They love unconditionally, and just ask for your companionship in return. I truly wish that I myself could participate in this program, but I will be out of town for the holidays with my family. I would love to convince them to participate in the program, but since it’s not my home, I can’t push too hard. So in an attempt to do all I can for shelter animals, I wanted to reach out to you, my readers and ask that you consider fostering a dog for the holidays. If you go here you can just put in the state you live in, and find local participating shelters in your area.

Now let me make this clear. I honestly believe this program is set up knowing that most people would be unable to return the dog to the shelter once they take it in their home. I mean who would be able to resist? Dogs give nothing but love. I honestly can’t imagine taking in a dog and ACTUALLY returning it after the holidays. Just thinking of them in cages makes me so sad.

If anything, a program such as this can raise awareness of the wonderful dogs out there that are waiting for homes in shelters. But keep in mind dogs are NOT good Christmas presents! It is a huge commitment, and should be a decision made by the whole family.

So bring a shelter dog into your home this holiday season…or keep it forever! And you can find all the joys a dog can bring!
