About Jen

After The Alter is a blog that I started in February of 2009. I am writing this blog because I feel it’s a great way to get my thoughts and feelings out there. I love being a wife and mom, and I feel that although I am still learning, I will someday be able to inspire people with my experiences and/or stories. Here, in this blog I will discuss my life “after the alter” meaning after being married, and the changes that go with it. I love being married, and here I share stories of my life as I learn how to be the best wife, and mother I can be and all my crazy thoughts along the way. It’s a journey, and I am excited to share!

Before anyone can appreciate my stories in the future, I must give a little background of my past. My life is rather ordinary. I am 30 years old, and live on Long Island. I am originally from Pennsylvania. I had the most wonderful childhood. I have 1 brother, 1 sister, and amazing parents who are very supportive. (even though I bring them all up regularly in the blog) How did I end up in Long Island you ask? Well at 18 I went to Hofstra University. There, I met and fell in love with my now husband. We married in June 2008. We now live in Long Island and are living happily in our townhouse with our wonderful  4lb Pomeranian Tinkerbell.

After our first year of marriage, my husband (Called Captain Awesome here) and I decided to start our family. We scored big time when I found out I was pregnant after our first month of trying. We were the happiest people in the world! Unfortunately the happiness didn’t last long. I miscarried  at about 6 weeks, and if you want, you can read about the whole journey here. We were devastated. After months of no success, we finally got our miracle on our 7th month trying post miscarriage. That’s right…we FINALLY got our BFP! The Captain and I couldn’t be happier.

Our son was born on December 1, 2010. He is the light of my life and the most wonderful little boy. He is now the star of this blog as I share my motherhood journey.

This blog thus far has followed my life as a newlywed, my troubles with TTC, my pregnancy, and now my life as a mom. Oh what adventures I have ahead of me. Don’t worry, you will still get a lot of my random thoughts.  Thank you so much for following my adventures.
